Svenstol at ASFINAG

Have you ever been on a motorway in Austria? Then you’ll have – hopefully – purchased a vignette toll sticker and have already had dealings with one of our best-known Austrian customers: Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft (ASFINAG).

Among other things, more than 6,000 cameras are available for monitoring traffic. Each individual camera can be controlled separately. Tens of millions of data points continuously deliver information from the road to the traffic management centres, enabling rapid, efficient control of the tunnel and road infrastructure.

The national traffic management centre in Vienna’s Inzersdorf district is the most state-of-the-art traffic management centre in Europe with around 100 monitors and a huge video wall containing 32 screens. From here, staff monitor what is happening on the entire motorway network around the clock and warn motorists in good time of major traffic jams, closures or disasters. The information for the traffic reports issued by radio station Ö3, to name but one example, comes from here too.

ASFINAG is responsible for financing, construction, maintenance, operation and toll collection on 2,249 km of motorways and expressways, almost 6,000 bridges and 166 tunnels. From cleaning the rest stops and monitoring and directing traffic, to building motorways and tunnels, ASFINAG takes on all tasks.

The nine regional traffic management centres and the national traffic management centre in Vienna’s Inzersdorf district are responsible for traffic monitoring and control. In almost all traffic management centres, staff now sit on Svenstol 24 h chairs.
