From the office to the water

For a few years now, people in the office of Alster Touristik GmbH have been sitting on Svenstol, and now their colleagues on the water can also enjoy the seating comfort. By the way: anyone visiting Hamburg should definitely explore the city from the water, there is no better way to discover the hotspots and more hidden sides of the city.

On 15 June 1859, the screw steamer "Alina" cast off for what is now the 160-year history of Alster shipping in Hamburg. The trip cost three or four shillings, so that almost everyone could afford the luxury of this reliable transport connection. In the heyday of Alster shipping, more than 30 steamships travelled the Alster as public transport. In 1911, almost 11 million passengers were counted.

With the founding of ATG Alster-Touristik GmbH on 27 April 1977, the fleet was almost entirely geared towards trips of interest to tourists. Today, ships from various eras cruise on the Alster, from which you can discover the city with the most bridges and one of the greenest metropolises in Europe on a variety of round trips.

Perhaps the captain will be kind enough to let you try out his Svenstol.
