STEAG Power GmbH operates several plants of significant importance to the energy sector at its Völklingen site, including the well-known model power station and the Völklingen combined heat and power plant. As part of the European interconnected grid’s reserve capacity, these plants make a vital contribution to the stability and security of supply of the energy infrastructure.

With a capacity of 220 MW, the Völklingen combined heat and power plant – and the Völklingen model power station with its 190 MW – together with the engine-driven combined heat and power plant (42 MW) – are among the site’s key components. All the plants are monitored, coordinated and controlled around the clock from the control centre. This requires the utmost concentration, quick decision-making and maximum reliability.
